Madagascar Temple site released

This sacred house of the Lord will be built on a 9.8-acre site located at Fokontany Andranoro, Ambohibao, Antehiroka, Andranomena Madagascar.

The Antananarivo Madagascar Temple was announced on October 3, 2021, by Church President Russell M. Nelson. This will be the first temple in Madagascar.

There are over 15,000 Latter-day Saints in 44 congregations in Madagascar. The temple in Antananarivo will be the country's first temple. Madagascar is the fourth-largest island in the world, and its capital city is Antananarivo. The church has been in Madagascar since 1993.

Additional information, including an exterior rendering, will be provided later. A groundbreaking date will be announced in the future.

Temples differ from the Church’s meetinghouses (chapels). All are welcome to attend Sunday worship services and other weekday activities at local meetinghouses. The primary purpose of temples is for faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ to participate in sacred ceremonies that unite families forever.
